Berry Agile Solutions Overcomes Technical Hurdles to Produce Award Winning Bottles
Berry Agile Solutions Overcomes Technical Hurdles to Produce Award Winning Bottles
Luxury artesian mineral water provider NEUE recruited the help of Berry Agile Solutions (a division of Berry Global) to design a creative award winning water bottle made with 100% rPET. NEUE managed to find a place in a niche market for luxury bottled water, however, finding a bottle design that gives off a premium luxury feel was a difficult task. A long list of requirements had to be met in order to produce the design that was envisioned by the company. Among the requirements was sustainability. Which prompted the company to use 100% rPET which produces fewer emissions and contributes to circularity. Other design requirements were that it needed to have a convex front panel that could allow the label to be placed on the back of the bottle with the graphics facing inwards, to be viewed through both the bottle and the water without distortion. The bottle also needed to have an ergonomic shape that would enable it to fit into small spaces easily such as back pockets, crossbody bags, and seatback storage on trains and planes. The problem was that rPET’s strength and stiffness made it difficult to produce a distinctive bottle shape through traditional injection stretch blow molding. Berry Global was able to utilize its global in-house expertise in material science, design, and manufacturing, to produce solutions that were able to successfully adapt injection stretch blow molding technology to produce the bottled water design for NEUE Water.
